Top End Series 2006 :Australia A in Complete Control

Top End Series 2006:

"Australia A finished day two in a commanding position, after declaring their first innings closed at 461-4 they have India 221-7 still 240 runs behind.
If Phil Jaques had a sleepless night, after finishing day one on 199*, he showed little signs of sleep deprivation effortlessly reaching the 200 mark on the resumption of play this morning. The Australians soon had more to celebrate when the other overnight not out batsman Travis Birt brought up a much deserved tonne. The two combined to put on 279 for the third wicket, before Birt was finally dismissed for 130(451-3). Even so the wicket was due to a run out and not the penetrating bowling of the India A attack."

The bowlers followed up the good job and folded up the hosts for just 186 in 38.3 overs. An effective spin-pace combination of Vijay Kumar, and Yo Mahesh (3-35) and Shahbaz Nadeem (2-29) found the English batsmen on murky waters. "

350 detained over Bombay train blasts

India News - Indian News ~ Latest News Headings ~ Deepthi.com:

"Indian police have detained about 350 people for questioning in connection with the Bombay train bombings, officials said Thursday, amid suspicion that Kashmiri militants could be linked to the attacks that killed at least 200 people.
Most of the detentions were made overnight in Malwani, a northeastern suburb of Bombay, said police Inspector S. Goshal. He said nobody has been formally arrested or charged, and the detainees were rounded up only for questioning to help with the investigations into Tuesday's bombings. Bombay police Commissioner A.N. Roy confirmed a large number of arrests had been made but refused to give an exact figure. Meanwhile, an Indian Foreign Ministry official demanded that Pakistan dismantle all terrorist networks on land it controls - but fell short of directly accusing India's nuclear-armed rival for the attacks. Pakistan's foreign minister denied his country bore responsibility.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh highlighted the achievements of this city of 16 million, which staggered back to life despite the attacks on the commuter train network. Eight bombs ripped through packed trains at rush hour, stunning a city that sees itself as the embodiment of India's global ambitions, where the country's business community and entertainment world come together. The number of dead has risen steadily as rescuers found more bodies and people died of their injuries. "

"India's new pace spearhead S Sreesanth is keen to develop a potent yorker ahead of the tri-series in Sri Lanka to become a more complete fast bowler.
Sreesanth, who played a key role in India's 1-0 series win over the West Indies, said he was also working on removing the 'negatives' in his bowling action and has sought tips from bowling greats to improve his skills further. 'Yorkers are effective and surprise balls and should be used more in one-day matches. I am working on it and just want to get my confidence back,' he said at a meet-the-press programme after returning from the cricket tour of Caribbean. The Kerala speedster said out of the 70-odd wickets he had got in first class cricket, 33 have come through bowling yorkers. The 23-year-old bowler said he was inspired by fast bowling legend Dennis Lillee of Australia, who had always advised him to get the basics right during his days at MRF Pace Foundation. "

Sachin Tendulkar will come back stronger

India Cricket Match Test ODI News Indian Cricket News Photos Indian Cricket Team:

"Tendulkar will come back stronger Sachin Tendulkar and one should not have any doubts about his come back to international cricket, the consultant for BCCI Andrew Leipus has said.
The amount of runs he has made for Lashings World XI recently is a testimony to his fitness and form, he noted. Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, Leipus said the champion batsman would be back. 'I can for the moment make a subjective decision about his fitness and not an objective one. But I expect him to come back stronger and better,' he said. On the player burn out issue, Leipus said the question on volume of cricket played these days needs to be addressed. 'Most of the tours are short and compact. One has to look at the issue in its entirety itinerary, tour planning, scheduling of matches. 'If there are more gaps between matches, the tours tend to be longer. 'It is a `catch-22' situation, which the authorities concerned should address,' he said. On the general fitness of the men in blue, Leipus said one has to assess it on an individual level and not the team as a whole. "

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News : Germany 3 - 1 Portugal

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News:

"Germany shrugged off the disappointment of their semi-defeat by Italy to claim third place at the 2006 FIFA World Cup by beating Portugal 3-1 in Stuttgart.
Bastian Schweinsteiger enjoyed a night to remember in the hosts' farewell match at these finals, scoring twice in the second half as Germany finished the tournament with the bronze medal - and 14 goals to their name, three more than any other team with just Sunday's Final to play. Schweinsteiger opened the scoring with a swerving shot from distance after 56 minutes and five minutes later the same player's low free-kick was diverted into his own goal by Portugal's Petit. With 12 minutes remaining Schweinsteiger struck Germany's third goal with a fine effort into the top corner before two Portugal substitutes conjured up a late consolation for Luiz Felipe Scolari's side. Luis Figo, on his final appearance for his country, sent over a perfectly placed cross for Nuno Gomes to head past Oliver Kahn, denying the German goalkeeper one last clean sheet before he too bowed out of the international arena. All-rounder Afridi hit his first four balls, faced in near darkness, from Zaheer Khan for three sixes and a four as Pakistan chased the International XIs 123 for one off 10 overs. They got home off the last ball thanks to a rapid 36 not out from captain Inzamam-ul-Haq. Rain shortened the match but not the excitement as Afridi greeted Scott Styris by hitting his first two deliveries into the crowd before he eventually holed out to Brian Lara at short fine-leg. In all, he hit five sixes and two fours to give the Pakistan innings a real shot in the arm."

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News : France beat Portugal 1-0

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News:

"Zinedine Zidane will finish his career on the greatest stage of all after his first-half penalty proved enough to take France past Portugal and into the 2006 FIFA World Cup Final as 1-0 semi-final winners in Munich.
Zidane scored two headers to help France beat Brazil in the 1998 Final and eight years later, in his final match before retiring, he has the chance to bow out with a second winner's medal in Sunday's Final against Italy in Berlin. France's winning goal came when Thierry Henry went to ground under a Ricardo Carvalho challenge after 33 minutes and Zidane struck his spot-kick low to Ricardo's right. They defended their lead comfortably save for one heart-in-mouth moment in the second half when Fabien Barthez spilled Cristiano Ronaldo's free-kick and Luis Figo headed the rebound over. Portugal, semi-final losers here just as they were in 1966, will contest the play-off for third place with Germany in Stuttgart on Saturday. "

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News : Italy Beats Germany 2-0

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News:

"German dreams of reaching the FIFA World Cup Final on home soil died in Dortmund as two goals in the final moments of extra time carried Italy into the Final as 2-0 semi-final winners.
With a penalty shoot-out looming, Fabio Grosso broke the deadlock in the 119th minute as he curled a left-footed shot past the despairing dive of Jens Lehmann from the right side of the penalty box. Substitute Alessandro Del Piero made sure of Italy's place in the Final when he beat Lehmann from close range in added time at the end of the extra period. Italy now advance to their first FIFA World Cup Final since 1994 and their sixth overall. They will face the winners of Wednesday's Portugal-France semi-final in Berlin's Olympiastadion on Sunday, 24 hours after Germany have contested third place with the losers of that match in Stuttgart. Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News : German Key Player Suspended for World Cup Semi-Final

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News:

"German midfielder Torsten Frings has been suspended for the World Cup semi-final against Italy in Dortmund on Wednesday morning (AEST).
FIFA launched an investigation after television executives from Italy said they had found evidence that Frings threw a punch at Argentinian forward Julio Ricardo Cruz in the fracas that followed Germany's quarter-final win on Saturday morning (AEST). The 29-year-old would be suspended initially for only one match, making him eligible for the World Cup final on Monday morning (AEST) if Germany defeat Italy in his absence. Frings will also be on probation for the next six months and will face at least another one-match ban if he re-offends during that period. He was also fined $5,500. German team manager Oliver Bierhoff was informed of the suspension soon after the side arrived in Dortmund to prepare for the Italian clash. Frings has started every match of Germany's World Cup campaign so far and would have been certain to be in the line-up against Italy in Dortmund. Klinsmann could call on Tim Borowski or Sebastian Kehl to replace him. Frings had protested his innocence, saying he simply put out his hands to protect himself during the fracas. "

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News : France beats Brazil in Fourth Quarter Final

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News:

"France have booked their place in the 2006 FIFA World Cup semi-finals at the expense of holders Brazil, this after a Zinedine Zidane-inspired 1-0 win for Les Bleus in Frankfurt set up a last-four clash with Portugal.
Thierry Henrys 57th-minute volley was the games solitary, all-important goal, and with Raymond Domenechs side inspired by a vintage showing from Zidane, Brazil could have few complaints at the final whistle. France now complete an all-European line-up in the tournaments semi-finals, with their clash against Englands conquerors Portugal scheduled for 5 July in Munich, a day after Germany and Italy do battle in Dortmund. "

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News : Portugal beats England in Third Quarter Final

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News:

"Portugal march on to a semi-final date with either Brazil or France after defeating England 3-1 on penalties following a last eight clash that ended goalless in Gelsenkirchen.
Neither of these sides could find a way through during 120 minutes of entertaining and closely-contested action, with Portugal unable to translate into goals a numerical advantage they had held for almost an hour thanks to Wayne Rooneys 62nd-minute dismissal. The match therefore became the second 2006 FIFA World Cup quarter-final to be settled on penalty kicks and, just as Jens Lehmann was Germanys hero yesterday, so Ricardo was Portugals today, saving from Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher to leave Cristiano Ronaldo to stroke home the decisive kick. The leg-spinner's performance lifted his side to a 49-run victory over West Indies and a 1-0 series win in the fourth and final test in Kingston. The first three tests at the Antigua Recreation Ground, the Beausejour Cricket Ground, and Warner Park had ended in draws. West Indies, set 269 to win, had staggered to 144 for seven before wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin's unbeaten half-century lifted them to 219 all out. Kumble finished with six for 78, claiming the last five wickets after tea as he bamboozled the lower-order batsmen with cunning, varied bowling.

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News : Italy beats Ukraine in Second Quarter Final

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News:

"Italy cruised into the semi-finals of Germany 2006 with a convincing 3-0 victory over Ukraine in Dortmund.
A sixth minute strike from Gianluca Zambrotta set the tone for the evening and a second half brace from Luca Toni merely compounded the misery for Oleg Blokhins side. Oleg Gusev, Andriy Gusin and Maksym Kalinichenko all went close for Ukraine, but were denied by a combination of the woodwork and some excellent goalkeeping by Gianluigi Buffon. Italy now turn their attentions to a semi-final tie with the hosts in Dortmund on Tuesday, 4 July, while FIFA World Cup debutants Ukraine will return home justifiably proud of their efforts. "

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News : Germany beats Argentina in first Quarter Final

Fifa World Cup 2006 Latest News:

"Germany advance to the 2006 FIFA World Cup semi-finals after triumphing 4-2 over Argentina in a penalty shoot-out following a tight, tense match in Berlins Olympiastadion that had ended locked at 1-1.
It proved impossible to separate these sides during normal time, with 120 minutes only able to conjure up a couple of goals, Miroslav Kloses 80th-minute equaliser cancelling out a 49th-minute opening goal from Roberto Ayala. That left the match to be settled by penalties, and it was Jens Lehmann who proved the hosts hero, saving from both Ayala and Esteban Cambiasso, while Oliver Neuville, Michael Ballack, Lukas Podolski and Tim Borowski all successfully dispatched their spot kicks past Argentinas substitute goalkeeper Leo Franco. "
